llms.txt Checker & AI Visibility Test

Check whether your site has an llms.txt file — and whether ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Gemini crawlers are allowed in, blocked, or silently restricted by your robots.txt.

What is llms.txt?

llms.txt is to AI assistants what robots.txt is to search crawlers — except instead of saying "keep out", it says "here is what matters". It is a markdown file at the root of your domain giving AI systems a curated summary of your site and links to your most important pages. As more people discover products through ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini instead of Google, controlling how AI reads your site becomes part of basic SEO.

Frequently asked questions

What is llms.txt?
llms.txt is a proposed standard — a markdown file at yourdomain.com/llms.txt that gives AI assistants a curated summary of your site: what it is, and links to your most important pages in an order you choose. Where robots.txt tells crawlers what they may not read, llms.txt tells AI systems what they should read first.
Does llms.txt actually matter yet?
Adoption is early but growing fast — developer-focused companies like Anthropic, Cloudflare, and Stripe publish one, and several AI tools already read it. The honest position: it costs ten minutes, cannot hurt, and gives AI systems a cleaner picture of your site than crawling alone. Early adopters tend to be described more accurately in AI answers.
How do I create an llms.txt file?
Create a plain markdown file served at /llms.txt. Start with an H1 with your site name, a one-paragraph description as a blockquote, then sections of links with one-line descriptions of your key pages. Optionally add llms-full.txt containing your full documentation as one markdown file for AI tools that want everything in a single request.
Should I block AI crawlers like GPTBot?
Separate the two kinds of bots. Answer-engine bots (OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, ChatGPT-User) put your content in front of users with links back to you — blocking them removes you from AI search answers, which is where a growing share of discovery happens. Training bots (GPTBot, Google-Extended, CCBot) use content to train future models — blocking those is a legitimate content-protection choice with little visibility downside today.
How do I check if ChatGPT can see my website?
Run your domain through this checker — it reads your robots.txt and reports whether each OpenAI crawler (GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User) is allowed, partially restricted, or blocked, along with the equivalent bots from Anthropic, Perplexity, Google, and others.
